"MAVERICK" Available for Adoption at "CLACKAMAS CO DOG Services"
Shelter ID: 106506 Breed: German Shepherd Dog/Siberian Husky
neutered male 2 yrs 64 lbs adoption fee $210
Description:
Maverick is a big, lovable boy who is always ready for an adventure!
This approximately 2-year-old Husky/Shepherd mix weighs around 64 pounds
and is an affectionate, excitable guy who loves being outside and
having fun. He has a lot of enthusiasm for life, and his new family will
need to be ready to help him channel that energy in positive ways. He
would benefit greatly from continued basic training, positive
reinforcement, and opportunities to learn how to settle and make good
choices. He is still learning how to appropriately read other dogs' body
language, so his ideal home will not include other dogs. He has done
well in controlled situations, but he doesn't always recognize when
another dog is asking him to back off or settle down. With patience,
consistency, and the right guidance, Maverick has all the makings of a
wonderful companion!
1. Maverick is not recommended to live with other dogs currently. He
is still learning how to appropriately read canine body language and
can become overly excited when interacting with other dogs. He has done
well in controlled environments, but his new family should understand
that he needs continued guidance and positive, structured experiences
around other dogs.
2. We're unsure how Maverick is with cats or other small animals, so
we recommend careful introductions and appropriate supervision if he
will encounter them. His family should be prepared to manage
introductions thoughtfully and give him time to learn what is expected.
3. Maverick is a big, enthusiastic boy, so we are recommending a
home with kids 13+. He can get very excited, and his size and energy
could be a lot for younger children. Older kids who are comfortable
around a large, energetic dog and can participate in calm, appropriate
interactions would be a better fit.
4. Maverick would absolutely benefit from basic training and
continued positive reinforcement. He is a smart, active boy who needs
help learning when it's time to play and when it's time to settle. His
family should provide plenty of appropriate exercise, enrichment, and
structured activities while also teaching him how to relax. If you're
looking for a big-hearted, fun-loving companion and are ready to help
Maverick continue learning and growing, he may be your guy!
