Personality: Affectionate, Brave, Friendly, Loves, Playful
Marge, our 6 year old 51 pound Basset Hound, doesn't believe in taking 10,000 steps per day. If you're walking that much, how are you supposed to get in the required 1 million daily sniffs? Walking with Marge is much more of a plod with careful examinations of various plants. If your goal this year was to take time to "stop and smell the roses", well, do we have the dog for you.
Marge was found stray and the shelter reached out to us for help. Marge suffered from glaucoma, a painful swelling of the eyes, and was blind. She needed to have her eyes removed so she could live life pain-free. Now recovered from surgery, Marge is a lot happier. As Basset Hounds have one of the strongest scenting abilities, Marge easily navigates her world using her nose. She'll need some accommodations for her blindness (blocking her from stairs for example), but otherwise Marge can do what all other dogs can do.
Like a lot of Bassets, Marge is equal parts friendly, inquisitive and stubborn. Marge has never met a stranger and is excited to receive affection from whoever will give it to her. She thrives with pets and will glue herself to her person. However, Marge can also be moody. Marge doesn't like being told what to do and she will sometimes grumble and snap if she's asked to move. We understand; once you've found the perfect sploot-spot, starting over is a pain. Because of this, we recommend kids over 10. Marge would also do best with someone who is home often.
Marge likes other dogs, but would be best in a house with a dog who matches her energy. Understandably, Marge doesn't like being run into so she wouldn't feel comfortable living with a high energy dog. Marge has been great with dog-savvy cats. She is potty trained and has learned how to ring the bell to let her people know she needs out. Marge is playful and will self-entertain by tossing toys to herself and exploring her snuffle mat.
Marge is heartworm negative and is current on her preventatives.
For the right person who enjoys a slower pace of life, Marge is going to make a perfect best friend. Is that you?
