UPDATE 8/29/26 FOREVER FOSTER HOME FOUND
PERMANENT Old Dog Haven FOSTER HOME NEEDED:
(foster homes must be located in W. Washington state or Portland, OR only)
"URGENT – PERMANENT ODH FOSTER HOME NEEDED: Shih tzu, only 6#, neutered
male. This little fellow has been blind since age 3, apparently from
retinal detachment. (That and his very small size suggest genetic
issues?) Since then he’s developed what is probably “dry eye”, not
treated and undoubtedly now VERY painful. It’s possible that an
ophthalmologist could prescribe topical treatment that would help
enough. Most likely, however, he should have both eyes removed to end
what has to be constant extreme pain. That is a remarkably easy and
REALLY REWARDING surgery, but it is a something that requires handling
the recovery week or two.
He has lived fine with another dog though
he’s timid meeting new dogs. Cats like him! and he’s actually good with
kids, an amazing credit to his temperament. His owner says he’s
“too small and scared to do stairs” but he’s housebroken if taken out at
his regular times. We would very much like to get this dog into an ODH
home QUICKLY so we can try to end the pain he’s been living with. If
you’ve ever had a shih tzu, you know what quiet, unflappable and stoic
creatures they are, but he shouldn’t have to go through it much longer.
Let us know if you think you could give him a home and immediate vet
care "
