Maui, our 8 pound 12 year old terrier mix, is about as brave as they come. She's happily walked up to dogs 5 times her size and is sure every person she sees is a future friend. We've had a great time getting to know this courageous little lady; and now we're excited to find her a retirement home.
Maui ended up at the shelter when her person died. There, she quickly charmed everyone with her sweet disposition. We took Maui in to take care of her teeth; Maui's mouth was a mess. She's recovered from her dental now and is much more comfortable.
Like a lot of small dogs, Maui has a heart murmur. We evaluated her heart with a blood test which came back normal. This means, at this point, Maui does not have significant heart disease and does not require treatment. Like many older dogs, Maui also has a little arthritis. She does well on a daily anti-inflammatory and we recommend this be continued.
At home, Maui is great with other dogs and with cats. She is not destructive and is potty trained (with a few initial accidents). Maui loves walks and is perfect on her leash - she never pulls or barks. She is happiest curled up on the couch with her person, or, preferably, on their lap. Maui struggles with being left alone. We started her on fluoxetine (Prozac) to help her overcome this anxiety and it's already helping. Maui would prefer to live with someone who is home a lot or can take her to work with them.
Maui is heartworm negative and current on her flea and heartworm preventatives. She's had normal senior blood work.
Do you have room on your lap for Maui?
