Project POOCH, quite simply, changes lives. We operate a kennel inside a youth correctional facility and pair currently incarcerated youth with shelter dogs. The youth learn kennel management, positive reinforcement, grooming, and training techniques. The youth learn what it means to be depended on by another living creature and what it means to be trusted and relied upon. And, they learn what unconditional love feels like—sometimes for the first time. Our dogs get trained, loved, and adopted into their forever homes. There is no limit to the amount of time a dog spends in our care, and we are focused on the individual needs of each dog."

"FELICIA" AVAILABLE FOR Adoption at PROJECT POOCH"
www.pooch.org spayed female 6 yr 13 lbs, Breed: Dachshund mix
To know me is to love me! At least that’s what it seems like, since everyone who meets me says I am just beyond cute. But I’m not just adorable, I am also an expert cuddler and budding explorer!
Felicia is a sturdy little dog who has taken to walks and adventures like any other dog of stature. She loves putting on her harness and going for walks, exploring the campus with her handler. The feral cats on campus seem very fun to chase when they run, but she can be redirected with some snackies. Our trainer even took her off campus and reported that she settled well in the car and enjoyed meeting new people (even if it was just for her spay appointment!).
Due to her size, Felicia can be a little nervous around larger dogs. She will vocalize in order to have them keep their distance when she is in one of the classroom enclosures. However, she is unbothered when they join on walks. It is likely that her vocalization stems from comfort in her area and an inability to escape what she perceives as a possible threat.
Felicia had a small mass removed on 2/11 an,d it was determined to be benign.
Felicia is fully vaccinated, spayed, had a dental on 2/11, and is ready for her forever family!
Youth insight:
She is sweet and cuddly
She has really built her confidence since she has been at POOCH!
Gets along well with some dogs, but can be nervous around big dogs. If there is a dog in the home a meet & greet with the resident dog is required
Loves people!
Special Considerations
Felicia has very worn enamel on her teeth and will need annual dental cleanings to ensure her teeth and gums stay healthy. This is something an adopter needs to plan for financially, as dental cleanings can cost between $300–$900 depending on the need for extractions.
Fully vaccinated (Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella, Canine Influenza)
Teeth were just cleaned!
Will go home with a leash, harness, toys, a bed, two monthly doses of flea/tick/heartworm medication (value: $60), and a week’s worth of food
Adoption Fee: $350
