"ACE DOMINO" cutie CHI/Rat Terrier mix "PROJECT POOCH"

 UPDATE 1/3/24 Adoption pending

"Project POOCH, quite simply, changes lives. We operate a kennel inside a youth correctional facility and pair currently incarcerated youth with shelter dogs. The youth learn kennel management, positive reinforcement, grooming, and training techniques. The youth learn what it means to be depended on by another living creature and what it means to be trusted and relied upon. And, they learn what unconditional love feels like—sometimes for the first time. Our dogs get trained, loved, and adopted into their forever homes. There is no limit to the amount of time a dog spends in our care, and we are focused on the individual needs of each dog."

"ACE DOMINO" is AVAILABLE FOR Adoption at "PROJECT POOCH"

"ACE DOMINO"

breed: Chihuahua/Rat Terrier(?)  neutered male, approx 5 yr, 13 lbs

  • Loves other dogs his size. Could do well with larger dogs with slow introductions. Friendly, but shy at first. Learning about the big world and working on his confidence. Enjoys relaxing in laps and playing with soft toys. Great on leash (not pulling) , but can be reactive with unknown things on leash. Easy to redirect and to reassure.

Special Considerations: Small and can dash through doors. He is learning door manners but special attention to help him learn his new home.

Ace is a 13-lb mix breed pup. He probably some chihuahua, maybe a little Boston terrier or pug in there. He has the cutest snoot and will give you a smooch after he gets to know you. He came to POOCH from Marion County Dog Services after being picked up as a stray. He was very shut down in the county shelter but he quickly came out of his shell at the quieter POOCH kennel. He warms up to people quickly. He loves other small dogs and could do well with bigger dogs given a slow introduction. He is building his confidence and sometimes uses his voice when he wants attention when in his separate space or when he sees something strange and new to him in the distance. He is very food motivated and is learning how to check in with his people when he is feeling nervous. Ace seems to be house broken (although we can never say this with 100% certainty in a kennel environment) and it took him 3 weeks to learn he can jump on the couch at POOCH. The youth have taught him to love his harness, sit, go to bed, and are currently working towards comfort in his crate. Ace’s favorite activity is snuggling up next to his human friends. He will take a nap in a fluffy warm bed or entertain himself with a small soft stuffy. Ace has really blossomed at POOCH and showed us his sweet personality.
