RHAPSODY PLUS VIDEO
Rhapsody is a young Boxer mix who loves people and playful dogs.
Rhapsody is smart and learns quickly. She is currently in a foster home
with an older boxer mix, and - with some initial human intervention -
she tempered her exuberant play style to respect the older dog's less
exuberant demeanor. She really loves to play with other dogs, more than
chasing toys, so a home with a youngish and playful dog, or access to a
dog playmate, would be wonderful for her. She still has a bit of a
jumpy puppy style when meeting people, and though it is getting better,
it could be problematic for a family with children under 10.
She is very treat-focused and loves to please people, which makes her an
A+ student. She already knows sit, down, paw and other paw. The
fosters are happy to show the adopter the simple reward-based
distraction techniques they are using to train her to reduce her
excitement when she sees other dogs (or squirrels or cats) on a walk.
This training should continue as she is making great progress. She
benefits greatly from long walks (1 to 2 miles) two or three times a
day. With consistent guidance, she could be a good running or hiking
partner.
Rhapsody is well behaved in the home. She is crate trained and calms
herself well when put in the crate in a quiet area. If she is left to
roam alone in the house, or within a gated portion of the house, she
shows a bit of nervousness when people leave. In general, Rhapsody does
not startle at loud noises like trucks or equipment, but she does bark
when the mail arrives, someone walks by an open window or she hears a
car door slam, so a home in a quiet area would be a good fit for her,
along with continued work to reduce her reactivity to such sounds.
Rhapsody is house trained and sleeps quietly through the night. She
loves car rides, snuggling and positive reinforcement. Rhapsody is
looking for someone who will give her lots of love, exercise and a
stable home. In exchange you will get an amazingly smart, loyal and
loving companion.
