Wonder why the local county animal shelters are so overcrowded with great dogs who can't find homes?? If you're NOT wondering, you should be because it is now a crisis in this community. Volunteers at MCAS are trying hard for these sweet animals but know we aren't doing enough; shelter staff are trying their best for the dogs but are overwhelmed by the need, by the sheer numbers that coming into the shelter and not getting adopted.
The adoption market has become saturated, yet many homeless "lucky" puppies/young dogs continue to be brought into Oregon from shelters in Texas and California so they can can be "saved" by well- meaning people and rescue groups, Humane Societies.
The back-yard breeders in those states continue to breed for more puppies, and those owners don't spay/neuter - so it's never ending....MEANWHILE the homeless "unlucky" local adult dogs here are unable to find homes and deteriorate in the county animal shelters, because they are older than...what, 1yr? 2 yrs? maybe 3yrs?
It stands to reason that if fewer homeless puppies, adolescents were transferred into Oregon for a quick adoption turn-around, then more people looking to "adopt" a new dog would consider adopting a homeless ADULT shelter dog.There are really nice ones just waiting to meet you!!
