UPDATE 8/25/25 ADOPTED

"Volunteers that help care for these guys will attest to their gentle nature, their ability to learn new and forget past, and snuggle!"

"It’s been 43 days and counting that Captain, Tom Hanks, and Guardian have been available to adopt and waiting for their homes.  Their overall journey with Oregon Humane Society began six months ago.
Earlier this year, OHS partnered with the City of The Dalles Police Department to rescue nine Dogues de Bordeaux dogs that were living in unsanitary conditions and didn’t have access to food or water.
These three are a few included in a group of five still waiting to get adopted. They have put in the work to learn everything from walking on a leash to learning to trust people.
Once they get to know you, their affectionate and playful sides come out strong".  Get to know them - oregonhumane.org/adopt/details/330052/   OHS- FB 8/6/25

What our friends at OHS say about us:

  • We've been hanging out with our friends at OHS for about six months now. We came from a special rescue case, where we didn't know much about life or how to be companion dogs. The amazing staff and volunteers have spent countless hours with us; teaching us how to wear collars, to walk on a leash, what it means to sleep in a cozy bed and to be a human's best friend.
  • Once we get to know you, and you get to know us, we have proven to be affectionate and playful and an all-around good time.
  • Our DNA predisposes us to being incredibly loyal to one or two people at best. This means we might come across as intimidating to people we don't know. We need a human who is able and willing to keep us safe, continue to show us the ropes and set clear expectations and boundaries so we can be our best selves.

The type of home we each require:

  • I need to go to an adult only home.
  • I need a home without cats or other small animals.
  • No apartments or busy downtown dwellings. I must go to a home with a fully fenced in yard.
  • I will need to meet any canine companions prior to getting adopted. Guardian and Tom Hanks must be the only dog in the home.
  • To learn more about our specific needs, please read our What to Expect handout.

Our adoption process:

  • Because we require such specific and unique homes, OHS has created a more in-depth adoption questionnaire, which can be accessed via the "Meet Me" button at the top of the profile.
  • Once your questionnaire is reviewed, you will receive an email with a link to schedule a phone consultation.
  • After your phone consultation, if both parties feel the dog is a good match, your adoption counselor will schedule an in-person meet and greet. You will meet the dog with their volunteer and staff handlers. If you fall in love, we'll send you home together the very same day!
