"BARON" Happy update - German Shepherd boy

Happy Update Oct 17, 2017
Baron came to us 2 and half years ago as a skinny, nervous 60 pounds. As you can see, he's now a laid back 95 pounds of love. The grandchildren are his special loves. We tell him "your girls are coming', He runs to the door to wait. He's still not pleased with other dogs, but we're working on that. He's such a family member now. Such a blessing!!!"

Hello there! My name is Baron and I'm looking for a loving family to be their loyal companion. Did you know that German Shepherds are one of the most loyal breeds of dog? I am sure to make a wonderful companion and family dog. I am very mellow for a Shepherd, but of course will need plenty of exercise. Going for a walk or run would be fantastic! I already know how to sit, but am very eager to start learning more and I am very food motivated, so training should be easy. I am looking forward to being a family dog and am not one for being left outside. If you are an active person that has the time to put some training in me, please come down to the shelter today! I am about 2 years old and weigh a thin 60 pounds. I am already neutered!

PLEASE NOTE - PhotoBlog photos are copyrighted and owner does not give permission to use them in any negative context

Please note: I am a long term MCAS volunteer, and have devoted many hours to helping these local homeless shelter dogs find good homes, and do what I can to promote them through my photography on this Photo Blog site.  I DO NOT GIVE PERMISSION TO ANYONE  TO USE THESE COPYRIGHTED PHOTOS FROM THIS PHOTOBLOG/ and/or SDOP FACEBOOK, IN ANY CONTEXT WHERE THE CONTENT IS USED NEGATIVELY TOWARDS THE MULTNOMAH COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER, ITS ANIMALS, STAFF OR VOLUNTEERS.

For those who use any of my photoblog photos or posts for your own personal MCAS shelter slime campaigns, I say SHAME On You!

All of the dogs that you see on the Photoblog that say "Adopted" or "Transferred" have been such.
It is a very high percentage of the dogs, and there is no "time limit" for them, like in the "old days"
Most adopted animals hopefully go on to live happy lives in their new homes.
Some may have been brought back to shelter later, and these are usually put back onto the adoption floor or go to a rescue group. If a dog was euthanized for some reason later on, then the animal's file is usually removed from the photoblog. I am a volunteer and do the best I can to keep this real,
but also upbeat, because it is a wonderful thing that so many of the MCAS shelter animals, old and young, and every shape and size and personality DO get adopted!

It's unfortunate that it is necessary to post this. I (we) appreciate the positive sharing of the
posts/photos that can help to bring additional public support to the MCAS shelter, and these homeless Portland dogs who are looking for good homes.

Some of the dogs that come through the MCAS shelter who are put onto adoption -  in order to give them another chance at a good home - are not "easy dogs'. Some have been in multiple homes that gave up on them before ever coming to the shelter.
These dogs need special adopters. Unfortunately, these great "forever home" adopters or rescue groups are not always there in the real world for the dogs that need it. Rescue groups and adopters are often looking for easier dogs, especially the smaller variety. There need to be more trainers/ rescue groups willing to put the needed resources into some of these less easy shelter dogs BEFORE they go downhill, which they ultimately will, in spite of daily walks, food and shelter and whatever enrichment that limited shelter resources can provide. At some point, if an animal deteriorates badly and alternatives cannot be found, it becomes animal cruelty to just keep an animal alive forever in a shelter.

Please note - we live in a  great animal loving community and ALL OF the local animal shelters have very high save rates :).... And ALL OF the local shelters also have euthanasia. MCAS is absolutely no different in this regard than any of the local shelters, but they the one who is chronically being targeted by some personal hate campaign.

"PHILLIP" poodle mix and Dade, Great Dane mix - a Bonded Pair!

Thank Goodness Phillip and Dade got to the MCAS shelter. They  were starving when they were found tied up.

Maybe adopt Phillip and Dade together?

Available for adoption at Multnomah County Animal Services!

here's my Mcas weblink

My name is Phillip and I am really happiest being where my people are. I do need to go home with my buddy Dade. I would love nothing more than the curl up on your lap or trot along with you on walks. If you are seeking a relaxed and easy-going friend to keep you company through your life, then I am the dog for you! Through thick and thin, I will be by your side. I was found tied up with my buddy, Dade, both starving. My coat was completely matted and had to be totally shaved off, but trust me it will grow back. My new family will need to be prepared to have the regular grooming done that my breed requires. I have gained 2 pounds since arriving here at the shelter last week. I know it doesn't seem like much, but that's equivalent to 20 human pounds. My new home should have kids over the age of 8 years, as I do like to take treats hard. Please come and meet me today! I am about 8 years old and weigh 14 pounds.

"DADE" Great Dane Mix and Phillip Poodle mix - a Bonded Pair!

Dade isn't as tall as a purebred Great Dane, but just as regal. Dade is still very underweight - but has already gained 7 pounds since arriving last week at the MCAS shelter

Hi there! I'm a goofy Boxer mix lady searching for a new place to call my own. As you can see, I've got some weakness in my back end and I will need to be on medication to help manage my pain in the future. Because of this sensitivity, I would need a home with children 12 years and older. Now that I'm feeling better, I'm quite the sweetheart and enjoy butt scratches and wandering walks! I can be selective with my doggie friends, so I would need to meet any potential dogs I would be living with to make sure we are a good match. Come meet me today!  12 yrs, 56 lbs.

"HARLEY" young Border Collie mix

Available for adoption at Multnomah County Animal Services!

here's my Mcas weblink

My name is Harley and I'm looking for a special home. I am very active, love to play, and enjoy being around other dogs. I have met several dogs here at the shelter and have been told that I'm a playgroup rockstar! I still need some work on approaching other dogs on leash, but I am fabulous once in a group. My biggest issue is trusting new people and may take a few meetings to feel comfortable. My perfect home would be one where I have plenty of room to run with not a lot of foot traffic, so to say. It would be awesome to have some sort of job on a farm where I could exert all of my energy and use my smarts! I am very smart and have quite a few tricks up my sleeve too! My new home should be feline free with adults only. I am a fabulous boy once I get to know you, and would love to sleep in the bed with you! If you are interested in meeting me, please ask a staff member to meet me as I am in a different area of the shelter. I am about 1 year 3 months old and weigh 45 lbs

"DUKE" fun loving big shepherd type mix

Available for Adoption with Multnomah County Animal Services!

Mcas weblink  (10/11 has an adopter)

I am a fun loving and energetic guy! Dogs like me love to get out and play but are not always sure what to do with our mouths. I can tend to get so excited I jump for the first thing I see, and the game is on! My ideal family will be active, patient and use positive training methods to help me become a more refined pup. I think working with a trainer would be a fun way for us to bond and learn together. I am eager to learn and can't wait to show you how smart I am! My ideal home would not have any cats, livestock, small critters-sorry, but they are just too fun to chase! If you think we could be a match, please come down to the shelter to see me today.

Adoption update Jan 27, 2017:
Honey the yellow labrador retriever mix was adopted after recovering from flea allergy dermatitis and pneumonia.  Her new family says "Honey's fur is growing back on her hind-quarters, and she's infection free, on good flea meds, and all she wants to do is snuggle with our two other dogs. " - Michelle C

Do you like sugar and spice and everything nice? You should come see me. I'm Honey, a calm older spayed female yellow Labrador Retrieve mix, who weighs about 76lbs. I'm what they call a fixer upper because I need some TLC to get my coat and skin back into shape. The shelter doctor has already got me started on the road to getting better. I am on medication that will go with me to my new home and am anxiously awaiting a nice comfy home. I will need regular flea control and a good diet. The shelter is recommending kids 6 & up because my skin and ears might be sensitive.
