  • What my friends at OHS say about me:

    • Mental enrichment activities are a great way to entertain me and work my brain.
    • I'm a fiend for food! Snacks are a great way to make friends with me and teach me fun tricks.
    • I can't wait to show my new family how playful I am!
    • I am still learning how to walk on leash, especially in new environments that can be overwhelming. I need verbal encouragement, patience and of course treats from you to help me!
    • I had so much fun meeting another dog here in the shelter. My friends at OHS think I would be great at making new dog friends!
    • Even though I have 3 legs instead of 4, I'll have a leg-up on the competition!
    • High Energy: I can become easily frustrated if my energy and exercise needs are not met. I will need positive outlets and a calm environment to help me flourish.
    • I have a medical condition that requires long term management.

"STROOP" aka STROOPWAFEL" *pre-select* GOLDEN RETRIEVER "MCAS"

UPDATE 9/7/25 ADOPTED or on hold

MCAS needs to spay/neuter all dogs before adoption, especially the females and purebred dogs! (and ensure that the dogs are given adequate care and recovery time!) Adopting intact dogs to new homes is grossly irresponsible in our current homeless dog crisis. EVEN POOR counties with a much smaller budget for animal control are ensuring that  the dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Management is failing the animals and the community....Possible Solution? - lease/create an offsite space and hire part-time well- qualified Veterinarians and qualified volunteers to help out. Provide safe spay/neuter and provide a safe recovery space so all adoptable animals are spay/neutered before they go to new homesMore veterinarians could be recruited if given a competitive wage and more autonomy

Learn more about Pre-select animals." NOTE- it is important to check at the local animal shelters if you lose your pet as the stray hold time is only 3-6 days depending on if they have any id

Hi, my name is Mocha! I'm a 4-month-old German Shepherd Rottweiler puppy with a sweet, dark coat just like a cup of my namesake. I'm smart and eager to learn, and I can't wait to find a family who will guide me through life. I have a lifetime of love to give, but I'll need a family who is ready to commit to a lifetime of training, exercise, and socialization. I'm looking for a home that understands the importance of positive reinforcement and consistent guidance to help me grow into the best dog I can be. I'll thrive with an active family who loves to play and explore, and a yard to call my own would be a dream come true! If you're ready to make a lifelong commitment to a big, loving pup, I'm the one for you!

"BAZA" CUTIE! *Tri-pod* LITTLE mix (listed as Chihuahua) "STUMPTOWN STRAYS"

     UPDATE 9/7/25 ADOPTED!

Stumptown Strays" is a wonderful local Rescue that helps shelter dogs in need of medical assistance.

"BAZA" is Available for adoption with STUMPTOWN STRAYS

spayed female  1 yr 17 lbs,  Chihuahua mix

adoption fee $400   ok with dogs kids, cats

    Personality: Affectionate, Gentle, Loves, Friendly

Baza, our 1 year old 17 pound small dog mix, is so stinking cute. She's cute enough that she could probably get away with being a jerk. Instead, Baza decided to be so stinking sweet! Her only flaw, really, is her inability to dodge traffic. So, we're looking for an adopter to help Baza stay out of the road.

Baza was found stray with a badly injured leg after being hit by a car.
We took her in and found that, unfortunately, her leg could not be salvaged. Although she's now a tripod, Baza runs and plays like any other dog. She's proof that all dogs are born with 3 legs and a spare.

A delightful house guest, Baza is (mostly) potty trained, not destructive and is good with dogs and cats. She's very friendly, and seems to prefer the company of people over animals. Baza mostly wants a lap to curl up in. Baza is leash trained and excited to go on walks. She absolutely hates being in a crate, but has been good when left out on her own. Baza would be fine with slightly older, respectful kids and a house that isn't too noisy - sudden loud noises spook her (us too).

Baza is heartworm negative and current on her flea and heartworm preventatives.

Can you keep Baza from trying to play Frogger on the highway?

PRINCESS  #105629 spayed female 7 yrs 10 mths, 54 lbs       listed as Breed: Shepherd / Terrier

Great news! My adoption fee has been paid by someone who loves me and wants me to find a great home.

Here's what you need to know about me:

I'm easy going. I need a loving owner who will help me work through some skin issues. I may be nearly 8 years old, yet, I have a sweet energy! Wanna go for a walk? Okay. Hang out in the yard? No problem. Just relax on the couch? I can do that. I'm pretty happy to go at your pace and I don't really need much more than most dogs do. If you're looking for a steady companion, I'm all yours.

My foster knows me better than anyone! Here's what they had to say about me during my time with them:

Princess is a sweetheart! She is mellow and easy. She likes cuddles and full body massages. She's very easy to walk. She likes to stop sniff the roses, but is happy to trot along by your side, too. She does not bark other dogs and has had friendly interactions with them when allowed. The way to her heart is through her stomach - She loves carrots, cheese & frozen berries!

It's recommended I meet any dogs or kids living in my new home before I'm adopted. I just want to make sure we all get along.

I'm currently in foster and ready for my new home! If you're interested in meeting me, please talk to the front desk, or email us at adoptionsvancouver@southwesthumane.org.

    Meet Waylon

Waylon is hoping for an active, engaging owner who will help him grow into his best adult self. Waylon was rescued after being dumped with his four litter mates in an orchard in California. We have the video of their rescue if you'd like to see it and they are so happy to have been found by our rescue partners.

    - Approximate date of birth: 4/2/25

    - Weighs 32 pounds at 20 weeks old

    - Possibly a Pit Bull/German shepherd mix (his litter mate's adopters had his brother DNA tested)

    - Social, happy, playful puppy who loves people and other dogs. Waylon really enjoys dog friends and is eager to play. He takes correction well from adult dogs and backs off if he's being too rowdy puppy. A dog in his future home who is both willing to play with him but also correct him at times would be super helpful to him.

    - Good with cats and currently fostered with a cat

    - He has not been around kids much but we imagine he would be excited to tag along with them.

    - Has been excellent with his potty habits and no potty accidents in the home for the past few weeks in foster. As long as he is kept on a potty schedule routine and supervised as any young puppy should, his potty habits have been perfect.

    - Working hard on crate training. He will protest in the crate for about 10 minutes and then after that he settles into the crate. He can sleep in his crate at night or out on a dog bed closed in the human's bedroom and does well with both arrangements.

    - Waylon does get car sick. This can be mitigated with over the counter anti-nausea medication. But an adopter who wants to take him everywhere in the car with them would be hard for Waylon. Waylon is working with a trainer to help him practice feeling less anxious in the car. When he does ride in a vehicle he is quiet in his crate. But he does drool a lot and can vomit.

    * Waylon is currently fostered with a trainer who is doing a solid amount of foundational work such as: waiting to go through doorways and exit his crate, place cue and how to settle, and taking him out to socialize on walks. This trainer is willing to offer continued training and support for Waylon at a discounted rate and is located in Vancouver, Washington. Puppies need lots of training and having a built in coach to support you in new puppy ownership is so valuable.

Waylon is fully vaccinated, dewormer, microchipped, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. His adoption fee includes his neuter surgery at our partner vet clinic in Milwaukie, Oregon between 6 months to 1 year of age. It also includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner veterinary clinics in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Portland, or Tualatin.

    $150 adoption fee

    Fostered in Vancouver, Washington
