"PRINCE" sociable senior WESTIE "STUMPTOWN STRAYS"

 UPDATE 1/2/25 ADOPTED!

ADOPTED!
Prince, now Bernie, our senior Westie was found stray with terrible teeth, an eye infection, and some lumps. Poor old guy! He was also deaf and didn’t see well, but that wasn’t going to stop us from getting him ready to find his very own forever home. We quickly got to work fixing up his teeth, helping his eyes, and biopsy-ing his lumps (benign!)
Friendly, distinguished, and sweet, Bernie deserved a perfect retirement home. And we’re so happy to share that he got one! Merridy and her husband were missing having a pup in their home and were ready to open their hearts to a new canine companion. Bernie was a wonderful match! He’s enjoying all the love and snuggles while relaxing with his family. He also gets to travel with them and make new friends, too. Sounds exactly like a dream life for him.
Congratulations Bernie!  Stumptown Strays FB 3/23/26

Personality: Affectionate, Quiet, Dignified, Friendly

Prince, our senior 24 pound Westie, was found stray. We asked him what he was doing wandering around at his age. As no dog has ever answered that question, we weren't shocked when Prince kept mum. What does shock us, however, is that no one came looking for Prince. He's a delightful fellow so we'll find him an equally delightful family.

The shelter reached out to us for help because Prince had terrible teeth and an eye infection. Common for senior dogs (Prince is somewhere around 10-13), he is also a bit lumpy. We took him in and got to work. Luckily, all of Prince's lumps are benign (including a fatty lump on his abdomen). He's now recovered from his dental and multiple extractions. Prince's eyes are much better now that we've started him on medication for dry eye.

Prince is as friendly as he is distinguished. He's a fan of all people and dogs. We have not seen Prince around cats but we can't imagine him being anything but respectful; we can do a cat test if needed. Prince is gentle and sweet and really enjoys meandering around on his walks.

Being older, Prince needs to urinate somewhat frequently. He's had full blood work and we have ruled out an infection, so we suspect this is just an aging change. Because of this, an adopter who is home often to let Prince out would be ideal. He can sleep all night without having to pee.

Prince is deaf and has cloudy lenses so he probably doesn't read as well as he used to. We also don't recommend that he drives. He should stay on Optimmune for his dry eye; this runs around 30 dollars a month. Prince is heartworm negative and current on his preventions. His adoption fee is $150.

Think yours may be the retirement home Prince is looking for?
