Luke, our 25 pound 10 month old spaniel mix, arrived at the shelter in terrible shape. He'd been hit by a car and had 2 broken legs, multiple scrapes and bruising to his lungs. Despite this, Luke was wagging his tail and was totally focused on who would pet him next. It's often said that we don't deserve dogs, and Luke is proof of that.
We took Luke in and thanks to the 15/10 Foundationdation for covering Luke's care in it's entirety, we were able to get him in to the surgeon. They tried valiantly to save Luke's rear leg, but the repair failed. Luke had to have an amputation. We put all of our hopes into the rapid healing of his other broken leg. It's been weeks, but Luke is now comfortably a tripod! He has a little nerve damage to his front leg, so he occasionally holds it up, but Luke can run around and play like any other dog.
We
aren't kidding when we say that Luke's tail is forever wagging. He is
about as friendly as they come. Luke's also been an ideal guest; he's
house trained and not destructive when left alone. However, Luke sings a
sad song when his people initially leave, so thin walled apartments may
not suit him. Luke loves other dogs and would thrive in a home with
another dog to play with (or to have access to other playful dogs).
Luke is confused by cats. He wants to investigate them, but if they run, Luke will chase them. We recommend a home with a dog savvy cat (if any). He is great on a leash and loves outings. Playful and adventurous, Luke can self entertain with puzzle toys and has never turned down a squeaky. As he is still a puppy, Luke can get slightly mouthy when playing, so older kids are recommended.
Luke is heartworm negative and current on his flea and heartworm preventatives. His adoption fee is $350.
