"Star found herself at Multnomah County Animal
Services with her sister, Twinkle. The shelter decided to adopt them out separately for a better chance at adoption. They were both very afraid in their kennels. Thankfully, both found foster homes! Twinkle was adopted right away but Star hasn’t had a single application.
Here’s what her foster has to say-
“Star is a very shy and serious girl until you get to know her. They say she’s a year old but she seems so mature for only a year. She lives with 3 small dogs and has met 3 other larger dogs off leash. She seems interested in playing but she shuts down immediately with any type of growling toward her, or rough and rowdy playing.
Star is a dainty girl. She likes gentleness- gentle playing, gentle dogs, and gentle voices. She is not high energy, even though her suspected breed traits may say otherwise. I believe she’s never lived in a home before, and it sounded like Twinkle’s foster suspected the same. She does not chew things up, or destroy anything when left alone in the house. She does not want to run away and is not an escape artist. Star would love to lay her head on your lap and nap while you work from home or watch movies.
Star has met the neighbor kids who are very respectful, and she liked them very much, but was very timid of the adults. She does not growl, bark or lunge, but she will retreat to get away. She is very undersocialized with people and other dogs but with patience and love, she will blossom. Star has SO much love to give and that’s all she wants.
While she is doing wonderful in the crate, I don’t have a need to crate her (other than training her to be okay in a crate). She sleeps well on the couch at night. Star is underweight and inhales her food, but doesn’t show any resource guarding issues at all.
We take daily trips to the barn to feed the horses and play with the other dogs on the property. She was very nervous of it at first but now it is just part of the routine. She’s great with my horses. I feel like she would possibly be good with cats because she can redirect so quickly, and listens so well. She does not pay attention to the turkeys anymore. I think she would be interested in what cats are, but likely leave them alone based on what I’ve seen.
Star would do well in a calm household with patience to not force a relationship. Although she comes around quickly, she needs time. She would do well with kids who are old enough to understand what respecting dogs looks like, and parents who are attentive enough to make sure interactions are appropriate. I think she’d also do very well with another dog who matches her energy and kindness.
She will not do well with bossy dogs or rough players.
Star didn’t know anything when I got her but I am
very surprised at how quickly she learns. She is learning crate, “go to your place”, sit/stay, and walking on a leash. She is such a special dog with a huge, forgiving heart. I hope she finds the very best home ”

I'm Star, a 2 year old female Shepherd and Husky mix. I'm a nervous girl who will need a patient and loving family to show me that the world is not a scary place. It takes me awhile to warm up to new people, but once you've earned my trust I will be your constant sidekick. I seem to be dog friendly, but I can be awkward and nervous with other dogs in play groups here at the shelter. I may do well with another calm and social dog in the home. Please ask to meet me today! I just might be the shining star you need in your life!
