Project POOCH, quite simply, changes lives. We operate a kennel inside a youth correctional facility and pair currently incarcerated youth with shelter dogs. The youth learn kennel management, positive reinforcement, grooming, and training techniques. The youth learn what it means to be depended on by another living creature and what it means to be trusted and relied upon. And, they learn what unconditional love feels like—sometimes for the first time. Our dogs get trained, loved, and adopted into their forever homes. There is no limit to the amount of time a dog spends in our care, and we are focused on the individual needs of each dog."

MAXX neutered male,(overweight 45 lbs) 5 yr mini-AUSSIE, good with cats, gets along with many dogs, loves people
I’m at Project POOCH because the circumstances of my family changed. I’m a very good boy and I’m looking to get back into a home as soon as possible. I’m very smart and have learned a few of my basic cues already including sit and down. I walk well on a loose leash and am very neutral to cats so I would do fine in a home with cats. I lived in a home with kids and do well with them. As I am a herding breed, it might be better for me to be in a house with kids who are over the age of 8, but it really depends on the demeanor of the child.
I LOVE to chase balls and if you are willing to throw one for me we would be best friends immediately! I like to hang out with people and love a good snuggle. I enjoy pools and playing in water (something to keep in mind for next summer!).
I will need regular grooming as I have the type of coat that needs brushing or else I will get matted. You can learn to brush me at home and keep the professional grooming to every 3–4 months, or take me to a professional groomer every 6–8 weeks to keep my coat in tip-top shape.
I promise that I will be the best boy and your best friend forever!
