"ACHILLES" HAPPY UPDATE BIG young pitbull _needs some recuperation time

UPDATE  Achilles  3/21/24 ADOPTED

This dog was an absolute  love bug and obviously a staff favorite! Until March 21, he had been at MCAS since June of 2023! He came in with his brother, Zeus, who was also just as big of a Teddy Bear as he was. Zeus was adopted shortly after his hold time was up and I'm sure Achilles would have been too if he had not injured himself! He tore a ligament in his knee and was not using the leg at all at first. MCAS sent him to a surgical specialist for a consultation. Much to our surprise, the surgeon said his injury may heal with strict rest and limiting his activity. Since then, our team at MCAS- especially our wonderful animal health department and the ACT 1 kennel staff- gave Achilles the extra attention needed everyday to follow doctor's orders and help him to heal! It was a long haul, but we didn't give up on him. And on March 21, he finally went to his new home with some wonderful people that are already sending us pictures!

Achilles is not just your ordinary pup - he's a gentle giant with a heart of gold! Achilles may tip the scales at 92 pounds, but his love and affection know no bounds. Despite his large size, Achilles is a big softie who's guaranteed to steal your heart with his sweet and friendly demeanor. With his upbeat personality and unwavering loyalty, Achilles is sure to make a wonderful companion for the right family. It's important to note that he has a medical condition affecting his right rear leg. While he's been making great progress in our care, Achilles will require strict activity restriction for the next 8-12 weeks, possibly longer, to ensure he fully recovers. At this time surgery is not needed but while he heals it's important to let him rest. We currently recommend that he goes to a home with no other dogs due to having some dog reactivity in his past and needing to rest. Despite this, Achilles is determined to live life to the fullest and is ready to embark on a new adventure with a loving family who will support him every step of the way. If you're willing to open your heart and home to this special boy, come meet Achilles today and help him write the next chapter of his story
