" TESSA" long term GSD shelter dog (maybe foster her?)

ADOPTED!!!

Available for adoption at Multnomah County Animal Services!

Tessa needs a German Shepherd fan who understands fearful dogs, and can devote the time and emotional energy to help her work through her fears - using positive training methods (why use positive training methods? Because fearful dogs like Tessa often get  worse when someone uses aversive - fear based - discipline training methods on them)

Tessa has been at MCAS a long time. She would love to find a good home/or appropriate Foster home soon.  If you're interested,
here are a few hints to helping her in a new home - Help Tessa feel safe (when you're afraid, you want to feel safe, right?).  Stay positive, and act like everything is going to be ok :) (as it's tough to always know if you're doing the right thing for the dog, and you will worry a lot,  and hey, dogs like to hear a positive feedback too!)  Allow her to progress at her own pace (structured easy steps to help her feel she is doing well....we all like to know we are doing well when learning new things)  Get in touch with a good Certified Pet Dog Trainer - the support system is great, you'll learn new things and your dog will love the training.
These fearful types are often the brilliant ones in the dog world, and the most responsive (to the owners) dogs you could ask for. We just need to help them relax a little, and enjoy life more! and we have to quit expecting so much, and just enjoy them.

The shelter is seeking adopters who are willing to invest in a future with this beauty. Special adoption criteria and requirements will need to be met by interested adopters. Some of these requirements will involve working with a shelter-approved trainer. At only 4 years of age, Tessa is worth every bit of your time and you will be rewarded with a loyal and loving canine family member. Please contact Ann Potter at: ann.d.potter@multco.us to find out more and schedule an appointment to meet Tessa.
