The dogs at Clackamas Co shelter have a harder time getting adopted since recent budget cuts closed the shelter on Saturdays.
Fill out our adoption application. There is a $10 application fee due at the time of submission. Please apply on our website and we will contact you. If you’re applying from out of state to adopt a dog, please note that it is a requirement that you come meet the dog at our facility. Adoptions are available by appointment only. We will call you as soon as your approved adoption application is next in our queue. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we find homes for pets as quickly and efficiently as possible. Description:
Meet Cookie Crisp, a 51 lb husky mix who is about a year old! She is
waiting to find someone patient enough to see the amazing dog she's
becoming. Cookie Crisp has a gentle heart and a soft, sensitive way of
moving through the world. In the shelter, she can be a bit unsure in new
environments and may initially make herself small when she feels
overwhelmed. She's still building confidence with leash walking and
handling, but what we're starting to see is really special; once she
feels safe, Cookie Crisp relaxes, leans into her people, and shows just
how sweet and connection-seeking she truly is. She enjoys being near
people she trusts and is beginning to blossom with calm, patient
interaction.
Cookie can be a bit mouthy and will need someone
willing to train her. She love treats and positive reinforcement, this
with make her training a lot more positive for her.
Cookie Crisp will do best in an experienced home that understands
shy or sensitive dogs and is willing to let her set the pace. She will
benefit from continued leash and handling work as her confidence grows,
and she'll thrive with a calm, steady routine and gentle encouragement.
We are unsure how she will do with cats or other small animals at
this time. If you have resident pets, please speak with your adoption
counselor about slow, thoughtful introductions to help set everyone up
for success.
She has shown good interest in other dogs here at the shelter. She
may enjoy living with another compatible dog, but a meet and greet with
any resident dogs will be required to ensure a positive match and
comfortable relationship.
Due to her current confidence level and need for a calm
environment, Cookie Crisp is recommended for an adult-only home where
she can continue to build trust at her own pace.
Cookie Crisp may not be the dog who rushes up to greet
everyone right away, but she is the kind of dog who forms real, lasting
bonds with the people who give her the time to feel safe. For the right
person, she's going to be incredibly rewarding to watch grow into her
confidence!
