Benji is a sweet and gentle 4-year-old Labrador Retriever mix looking for a patient and understanding family to call his own. He can be a bit shy and fearful at first, especially in new situations, but once he warms up to you, he'll be your best friend for life! He's very treat-motivated, which makes training a breeze. Benji loves to play fetch and tug-of-war, especially with his favorite tennis ball! Due to his timid nature, Benji would do best in a quiet adult-only home with a securely fenced yard where he can relax and feel safe. He has shown to be dog-tolerant but would need slow and careful introductions to any potential furry siblings. With a little love and patience, Benji will blossom into the most loyal and loving companion. If you think you can give Benji the loving home he deserves, please come meet him today!!

"SHADOW" affectionate young MED-SZ mix- unusual feet

"SHADOW" is Available for adoption at Multnomah County Animal Services!
MCAS hours/ Location

Location found: Surrender, Portland
How did we get this animal: Owner Surrender
Adoption cost: $160.00
License fee: $27.00 (Multnomah County residents only)

Animal ID: 329935 male 11 mths 48 lbs
Shadow is a sweet and affectionate boy who loves nothing more than being close to his people. He's a cuddle bug who will happily curl up next you after a day of fun or lean into you for pets. Shadow has a playful puppy side (he's still young), and he enjoys going for walks, exploring new environments, and playing with all kinds of toys. He would absolutely thrive in a home with a yard where he can run and play to his heart's content! While he can be a bit hesitant when encountering unfamiliar situations, Shadow warms up quickly with a little patience, encouragement, and a gentle approach. He's a smart boy who is eager to please and is already learning basic commands like "sit" and "paw." He's generally relaxed and easygoing, happy to go with the flow and spend time with his people, whether it's playing fetch, going for a stroll, or simply hanging out at home. Shadow has shown some signs of resource guarding with food, so his new family will need to be aware of this and work with him to build trust and ensure everyone's safety around treats and mealtimes. With a little understanding and positive reinforcement, Shadow is sure to overcome this. He's a truly special dog who deserves a loving forever home with experienced dog owners who can help him continue to build his confidence. Shadow has some unique genetic quirks that give his paws/ toes a slightly different appearance than most dogs. He'll need a loving person or family who can help him establish care with a veterinarian for regular checkups to ensure he stays happy and healthy long term. If you think you can offer Shadow the perfect home where he can flourish, ask to speak with an adoption counselor today!

"ZIGGY" handsome young SILVER LAB "Oregon Weimaraner Rescue"

"ZIGGY" is Available for adoption at OREGON WEIMARANER RESCUE

   ZIGGY

neutered male Silver LAB, 1.5 yr, 75 lbs

adoption fee $200

BELIEVED COMPATIBILITY WITH:

CHILDREN:  11+ dog savvy

CATS:  No

DOGS:  See bio

FROM OWNER:

About one year ago Ziggy was discovered roaming the woods 10 miles from our rural home. He had no collar or microchip and was extremely malnourished and very shy when it came to people. For over a month, myself, friends and other neighbors attempted to catch him. Some elderly neighbors nearby were eventually able to catch him in a kennel with food and house him in their horse barn for the winter. Upon realizing they could not continue to care for him in February of 2024, the elderly couple asked if we could take him in. Despite having limited space and a large dog and cat already, we took him in. We knew we could not keep him long term but we also knew our local shelters were overcrowded, and that because he was not socialized at that time, he would not be easily adoptable in the shelter environment. So, we brought him to our home to foster him. In fostering him, we hoped to be able to help him grow and flourish and to give him a fighting chance at finding a lasting forever home. We have grown to love his fun personality and think he is a truly amazing dog who is well worth the investment we made and feel the time is now right for Ziggy to find his true forever home.

Ziggy is an energetic and very playful male Silver Lab who is approximately 1.5 years old, 75 lbs, neutered (recently) and up to date on his rabies vaccine. He absolutely loves playing fetch and can be a total goofball when it's playtime….which he would love to be all the time :) He loves to bring the ball back to you and then roll around on his back with it before you throw it again. He is very smart, observant and has quickly learned basic commands (Sit, lay down, off, and come is about 50/50 but he does know what it means). We have worked really hard on threshold training (making him 'wait' at doors, gates, car doors etc.) with him and he is doing great. His leash-walking skills have come a long way though they could still use some fine tuning. We believe his beautiful blue/green eyes are his best attribute, they will really melt your heart!

Ziggy would do best in a home where there are calm, patient people who have prior dog experience and can offer him loving leadership. Movement is Ziggy's love language. He needs a home where the humans are active everyday! This guy loves to play fetch, hike, go for runs and is an avid swimmer. We have paddle-boarded with him and he has even pulled a skateboarder and biked alongside us for exercise. Ziggy has been living with a female Great Pyrenees and a cat. He should not live in a home with cats moving forward. He might be able to live with one other dog (non-dominant female would be best) if properly introduced. We believe Ziggy would do really well with crate training because he would like to have his own cozy space, especially if he is living with another dog. We do not have the space to crate train him but we know he would benefit from it and learn quickly.

Unfortunately, a lot of his past is unknown and we believe Ziggy was likely mis-treated and did not get proper nutrition in his first year of life. Ziggy has been able to build a lot of confidence during the course of his time with us but he would benefit from even further socialization and introduction to diverse environments. Warming to new people can be challenging for him but he has really loved meeting the vet and staff at our vet's office which is a great recent sign. When he first came into our home he, unsurprisingly given his past, guarded his water and food closely…he would clearly vocalize that he did not want anyone threatening his food/water but we spent a good deal of time hand feeding and working on resource guarding so these behaviors have largely subsided with the rare exception of his water bowl which he will occasionally still “guard” but its pretty random  when that occurs. Because Ziggy loves food so much, he does really well with treat training and being rewarded with small treats is an absolute delight for him. He is pretty independent and really thrives on a consistent daily routine. He is still a bit of a shy guy who can sometimes get overwhelmed around loud noises (predominantly loud music and truck noises) or if there is too much pressure/attention on him. Aside from some sporadic skin issues which neutering/diet have seemed to clear up, our vet says he is in perfect health, shows no signs of early hip-dysplasia and has beautiful teeth.

Ziggy has outgrown the environment and care that we can provide for him. He is ready for someone to open their hearts and provide his forever home.

 FROM OWR:

Ziggy has been introduced to older dog savvy children and was fine, but between his puppy exuberance and lack of experience we don’t think Ziggy would thrive in a home with young children (11+ and dog savvy should be fine). Ziggy likes other dogs but does not have a ton of experience with them so an ideal buddy, if any, would be a well adjusted easy going medium/large breed. Ziggy is not currently microchipped but we will supply one to his new owners. Ziggy is a total outdoorsy dog who would do very well with a person who hikes, bikes, boats and/or generally enjoys spending time outdoors. On a final note, Ziggy is a great passenger in vehicles where he stays in the back seat and hangs out.

"GINGER" still available UPDATE!!! "STUMPTOWN STRAYS" gentle senior Pitmix

"GINGER" is Available for adoption with STUMPTOWN STRAYS

"One thing we know about Portland is that we love our pitbulls. And we’re not just saying that because the human running these socials has one. Or because our founders have one. Or because a lot of our volunteers have one.

Okay geez, we may be biased. But it’s true nonetheless. Portland loves pitties. So we can’t understand why our 9 year old pittie-mix, Ginger, doesn’t have hundreds of applications to sort through. This senior girl doesn’t even have 10. Or…..1.
What gives??
She loves people and she’s great with the other dogs in her foster home, but doesn’t enjoy high energy or aggressive play with other pups. (No cats please, as well) Ginger just wants to be loved. Loved as much as she loves toys, which is a LOT. Ginger has never met a stuffy she didn’t love. And if there are no stuffed toys available? She will happily hold a ball, a stick, a frisbee...any object that can be thrown. She sure can’t wait for a basket of toys in her very own home.
Friendly, cuddly, and smart, Ginger is an easy keeper. She is polite in the house and housetrained. She knows sit, down, stay, come and shake. She’ll do anything for affection and for someone to toss a toy for her.
Ginger is working on her leash skills and loves walks. She pulls a bit towards other people and dogs, but is easily redirected - unlike what we’ve been told our whole lives, old dogs can indeed learn new tricks!. Ginger has had normal senior blood work. Like all of our Stumpies, Ginger is heartworm negative and current on her flea and heartworm preventatives.
Ginger was left at the shelter at 9 years old for reasons we’ll never know, but what we do know is that her true forever human is out there and will give her the time to feel safe and loved so she can finally believe that she is HOME."  STUMPTOWN STRAYS FB 11/11/24
Please apply to adopt your new bestie, Ginger, on our website. https://www.stumptownstrays.org/adoption-application

"GINGER" is Available for adoption with STUMPTOWN STRAYS

Pit Bull Terrier Mix, Age: 9 Years Old, spayed Female, med size

Housetrained: Yes

OK With Kids: Yes

OK With Dogs: Yes

OK With Cats: No

Adoption Fee $250

Ginger, our 49 pound 9 year old pitty mix, has never met a stuffy she didn't love. And if there are no stuffed toys available? Ginger will happily hold a ball, a stick, a frisbee...any object that can be thrown. So it was pretty tough on Ginger when she was healing from her dental surgery and couldn't hold anything. Now that this charmer is healed, she can't wait for a basket of toys in her own home.

Ginger came to us after her owners abandoned her at the shelter. She was so sweet and friendly that we were asked to take her in. Ginger loved the people and the dogs and the shelter, but she really needed her teeth fixed. Although Ginger had to lose several infected molars, she's much more comfortable without them.
Friendly, cuddly, and smart, Ginger is an easy keeper. She is polite in the house so her foster family has not had to crate her. She gets along well with large and small dogs, but chases cats, so no felines in her home. Housetrained, Ginger also knows sit, down, stay, come and shake. She'll do anything for affection and for someone to toss a toy for her.
Ginger is great on a leash and loves walks. She pulls a bit towards other people and dogs, but is easily redirected. Ginger has had normal senior blood work.
Like all of our Stumpies, Ginger is heartworm negative and current on her flea and heartworm preventatives. Her adoption fee is $250.
We can't know why Ginger was left at the shelter at 9 years old. But the person who gives this lovely dog a forever home will have hit the lottery. Is it you? Apply to adopt on our website. https://www.stumptownstrays.org/adoption-application
