Personality: Affectionate, Couch, Dignified, Friendly, Gentle, Loves, Quiet
Louise,
our 54 pound 5 year old pitty mix, is so nice. She makes "hearts for
eyes" at everyone and will accept pets from anyone willing to give them
to her. Her perfect attitude is remarkable considering how uncomfortable
Louise was when we met her.
Found stray, we were asked to take
Louise due to her terrible skin. After years of neglect and a chronic
flea infestation, Louise was mostly bald. Her skin was infected, itchy
and red. Despite this, Louise has been nothing but sweet and grateful.
She has been with us for almost 4 months now. Although she will never
have normal skin, she's so much better, and we've got a good plan going
forward.
Louise is very friendly. She is perfectly crate and
potty trained and is quiet when left alone. Great on a leash, Louise is a
joy to walk. She is very easy going with all other creatures. Louise
likes other dogs and seems to have no interest in cats. She is truly a
mild-mannered, happy dog.
We have worked hard on Louise's skin.
She's been to a dermatologist; we've done skin biopsies, cultures and
medication trials. Louise has severe atopy, which is an environmental
allergy. Some foods exacerbate this allergy, and Louise does better on a
hypoallergenic diet. Like a lot of dogs with atopy, Louise needs to
stay on a medication called Apoquel to control her symptoms. This is
typically expensive. However, thanks to the @1510Foundation for covering
Louise's medication in its entirety, the Apoquel is free to her adopter
for life!
Louise will need an adopter that understands that
allergies are manageable, but not curable. The hypoallergenic diet,
consistent flea treatment, and Apoquel helps a ton, but Louise will
forever periodically get infections. She'll need to be bathed more than
other dogs and will have more trips to the vet than a dog without atopy.
Louise is totally worth it.
Louise is heartworm negative and current on her flea and heartworm preventatives. We are not asking an adoption fee for Louise.
