Sweet
Freya is looking for a home for the holidays. This spayed, happy,
healthy and microchipped ~4 year old girl (age is an estimate) made her
way into our foster care after her prior adoptive family of almost 2
years grew too chaotic for her to exist happily (toddlers can be tough
for even the most seasoned of weims). Freya has lived very successfully
alongside two Weimaraners in her foster and another doggo in her prior
home, though in her forever home she would likely be just as happy as an
only dog to soak up all of the love and attention if needed.
Freya
began her life in Mexico where she was being bred and neglected until
one day a savior associated with another rescue spotted her, purchased
her and the puppy she was somehow nursing while wildly malnourished, and
brought the duo to the US (see photo of emaciated girl in her early
days at end of photo list). Everything about this amazing lady is
informed by that short story...she hilariously will slowly collect and
horde all of the toys and treats in the front of her crate throughout
the day until her people notice and redistribute the treasures (she
doesn't guard them, she just wants to have them near), she is highly
food aware/motivated (from years of starving) but has the gentlest of
mouths when taking treats from your hand, when she is given a treat she
almost always takes it and runs immediately into her wire crate to
either eat it right that second or add it to her treasure trove for a
rainy day. For all that she certainly endured in her early years you
would think this girl would be fearful meeting new people, but that
isn't the case, she loves affection and being around kind people, though
she does want to be the one initiating the first contact with new
people so she can decide if they are kind...which isn't an issue because
literally anyone can call her name and she comes right up to them lol.
Other
bits we know and have learned: Freya loves car rides, exploring new
environments and she is always the first person out of a door or gate
(she will quite literally spring out the door and immediately whip
around and look at you as if to say "where are we going?"). She is not
great on a leash without a gentle leader (see photo at beach for what a
gentle leader is if unfamiliar), she has nice shiny white teeth and
enjoys a good bone to chew, she is potty trained, healthy,
loves
her wire crate, spends most of her day lounging peacefully right up
until its time to go exploring and then she springs to life, fetch is
not something she has shown any interest in and "play" is usually
interacting with a human or another dog. She has a full tail and you can
definitely tell when she is happy because that thing gets swinging fast
:)
Freya has been an absolute delight to foster and we are confident she will lead a long happy life with a new family.
***We are not the rescue which initially brought her to the US
***She
was relinquished to us because she and the toddler were simply on
different wavelengths and there was not enough bandwidth for the
household to train both the dog and child simultaneously. She and the
other children spoke the same language and were fine (ages 5 to teen)
