"BEAUREGARD" aka"BEAU" little Terrier mix *would like a dog friend* "PROJECT POOCH"

Project POOCH, quite simply, changes lives. We operate a kennel inside a youth correctional facility and pair currently incarcerated youth with shelter dogs. The youth learn kennel management, positive reinforcement, grooming, and training techniques. The youth learn what it means to be depended on by another living creature and what it means to be trusted and relied upon. And, they learn what unconditional love feels like—sometimes for the first time. Our dogs get trained, loved, and adopted into their forever homes. There is no limit to the amount of time a dog spends in our care, and we are focused on the individual needs of each dog."

 BEAUREGARD (BEAU)neutered male , Appx. 4-year-old Terrier Mix, 12lbs

Beauregard has come a long way here at POOCH! When we first met him at the shelter, he was very shut down and nervous. Since coming to the kennel, he has grown into a social butterfly with the help of the youth and his friend Izzy.

The youth enjoy working with Beau because he is very food-motivated and smart. He is quick to pick up tricks and loves to show them off. He is also learning life skills pretty well, like loose leash walking, waiting at doorways, and your basic cues like sit.

Beau takes just a moment to get used to new people still, but is getting more social the longer he is here. He is easily won over by pets or cheese if he's particularly nervous. With his friends he takes no time at all to request attention. He is quick to join the youth anytime they sit on the couch, and is a tiny little shadow when out and about in communal areas.

He would do well in a household with another dog, as he is interested in finding a buddy to play with. He has spent some time with larger dogs, but is not confident that they won't step on him. A well-matched buddy would be ideal.

If you're looking for a little companion to brighten up your life, he might be your guy! Beau is a little guy with the capacity for large dog love. He also feels like a bigger dog than he is, with his long legs giving him a bit of height.
