"LUNA" easy-going PITTIE/LAB/SHEPHERD? *Loves people* deserves better!!**"MCAS"

LUNA -   " I recently took Luna from Multnomah County Animal Services out for a day. She immediately jumped in my truck and made herself comfortable.

We hiked around Mt. Tabor for an hour and a half, and she did beautifully - passing people, dogs, strollers, and stopping at the Visitor Center for a cookie. Afterwards, we made a stop at Meat for Cats and Dogs. There was one other dog in the store and I think she was way more interested in picking out a special treat than anything else. Last stop was a pup cup at Dutch Bros on Foster, where we parked and chilled in the parking lot while she took a quick snooze.

Even though she is only about 4 years old, she's clearly had a rough life - a few litters of pups, and poor skin/coat care. She is great to walk on leash, she loves people, and snacks. She is up for adoption at Multnomah County Animal Services  " Vanessa F

 # 406090 Breed: Pit Bull spayed female 3 yrs 41 lbs
*foster home*
Meet Sally! 🐾🌸 Sally is a sweet, tender-hearted young girl who believes that the very best things in life take a little patience-and plenty of tasty treats! While she can be hesitant when facing unfamiliar situations, Sally is remarkably smart and makes leaps of progress once she has a moment to figure things out. With just a little encouragement, she has gone from fearing stairs and elevators to walking bravely side-by-side and sitting patiently for her next cue.

On walks, she remains calm and watchful, quietly observing passing dogs and neighbors with gentle, curious eyes. Once she knows she is in safe hands, her bashful shell melts away into pure sweetness. Sally isn't a big face-kisser just yet, but she shows her affection in the most endearing way: crawling up to place a paw on each of your shoulders to give the softest standing hugs when you talk to her at her level! She also has a joyful, playful spark-bounce a tennis ball in front of her, and she instantly drops into play mode, ready to catch it straight out of the air.

Sally is looking for a patient, loving home ready to help her continue building confidence. She takes treats with extraordinary gentleness and would do well with older, respectful kids who understand giving a shy dog space while she settles in to become their devoted little shadow. She is making steady progress with house-training, appreciates a soothing routine (and perhaps some skin-nourishing treats like salmon toppers!), and is currently working on building comfort when left alone. If you have a soft spot for resilient, sensitive souls and want a loyal companion who greets love with two-pawed hugs, Sally is ready to walk right by your side! 🏑✨

"KIMCHI" "PROJECT POOCH"

Project POOCH, quite simply, changes lives. We operate a kennel inside a youth correctional facility and pair currently incarcerated youth with shelter dogs. The youth learn kennel management, positive reinforcement, grooming, and training techniques. The youth learn what it means to be depended on by another living creature and what it means to be trusted and relied upon. And, they learn what unconditional love feels like—sometimes for the first time. Our dogs get trained, loved, and adopted into their forever homes. There is no limit to the amount of time a dog spends in our care, and we are focused on the individual needs of each dog."

"KIMCHI" AVAILABLE FOR Adoption at PROJECT POOCH"

If you are interested in making a donation, learning more about our mission, volunteering, upcoming events, or details about adoptable dogs, call our office at 503-697-0623. If you get our voicemail, please leave a detailed message. We often cannot answer the phone as we are working with the pups, but we can call you right back!

If you need to schedule an adoption appointment, please review the adoption information page first and then email us at adopt@pooch.org or call us at 503-697-0623.

ASPHALT neutered male, Breed: Chihuahua mix

APPROX 1-2 yrs, 6 lbs  Adoption fee $350

*gets along with many other dogs (meet and greet required)

*loves his people

I have a big personality wrapped up in a VERY small body! I just want to be treated like a big dog, who can adventure, and run, and jump. If you’re looking for that full-sized mentality in a fun-size package, we might be a match!

Asphalt is a silly, adventurous, playful little dude. He is his own character and has charmed many of the youth into adoring him. At only 6 lbs, Asphalt rewrites expectations that small dogs are only purse dogs. He joins in on the walks and is a good partner to strut with. The youth are perfecting his leash manners, and he continues to learn more each day. He is incredibly treat-motivated and learns quickly. He's been working on adding to his trick list while at POOCH and would love to show them off to you! (If you're looking for a pint-sized dog to show up the big dogs in the trick department, Asphalt could be a great fit for you.)

Due to his small stature, Asphalt is looking for an adopter who will respect his autonomy and get consent before attempting to pick him up or leash him. He is not likely to be a dog who wants to be carted around, as there is much of the world to explore. When asked, and he consents, he is ok with being picked up for short periods of time, but quickly wants to return to the ground to blaze his own path.

We have found that he needs someone who will give him time to warm up and get comfortable before reaching out to him. With some trial and error, we have found some successful meet and greet protocols that help him put his best paw forward to make new friends.

He does best with a longer meet and greet, if not multiple. It is also likely that he will need to visit your home to build more positive associations before staying overnight. If you are willing to do that, he might be your best friend!

Because of his small size and his desire for humans to move slowly with him, a home with small children would not be a good fit.

Special Considerations

  • Children: Asphalt is very small so he would not necessarily do well in a home with rambunctious children who couldn’t respect his space. Children in the home should be 12 or older.

  • Other Dogs: Asphalt likes some dogs, but would not do well with a large, pushy dog. He can hold his own against a medium (25#) sized dog, but it requires the other dog to be respectful of the boundaries that Asphalt sets.

Meet Pippa, a sweet, gentle girl with a big heart who is ready to find her forever family! 🐾 Though she's a newcomer to the shelter, this lovely large mixed-breed girl is already making fast friends with everyone she meets. Pippa walked like a total dream on her leash right from the kennel, and the moment she stepped inside the room, her affectionate side shone through-she immediately began soliciting pets, leaning in close, and soaking up all the love. Pippa is as clever as she is sweet, already knowing how to sit on cue and taking treats with the gentlest manners. She did show a little curious tall-dog curiosity with some counter surfing, but she redirects easily with just a kind word and a tasty snack. If you're looking for a loyal, friendly companion to share cozy cuddles and daily strolls, Pippa is ready to trade shelter life for a warm spot in your heart and home! 🐢❤️
