"WALTER" young LABRADOODLE*LOVES People* "PROJECT POOCH"

Project POOCH, quite simply, changes lives. We operate a kennel inside a youth correctional facility and pair currently incarcerated youth with shelter dogs. The youth learn kennel management, positive reinforcement, grooming, and training techniques. The youth learn what it means to be depended on by another living creature and what it means to be trusted and relied upon. And, they learn what unconditional love feels like—sometimes for the first time. Our dogs get trained, loved, and adopted into their forever homes. There is no limit to the amount of time a dog spends in our care, and we are focused on the individual needs of each dog."

 WALTER neutered male, Breed: Labradoodle

10 mths 50 lbs   Adoption Fee: $350 Gets along well with many dogs, LOVES People!

Walter came to POOCH with some considerable matting. We gave him a gentle groom, and have worked on his body handling for grooming needs. We highly recommend you build a relationship with a groomer you like before he needs another groom, to help maximize positive experiences. Depending on the coat length he is able to maintain, you will need to visit a groomer somewhere between every 3 to 6 weeks.

Walter is an adolescent puppy, whose big feet are a little bit everywhere all of the time. He is working on growing into his playstyle and learning how to be a good dog, not just an adorable one. He loves leaning into you when you pet him. His favorite toy is the balls that are slightly oversized and he uses his big feet to bat them around like a cat.

With the youth Walter is learning his basic cues, as well as leash and doorway manners. He is still a puppy, so a bit distractible at times, but he is quick to return to his handler and get back into the groove of leash skills. Doorway manners help him learn impulse control and we all know how hard that can be!

Walter LOVES to run around in playgroups. His ideal play pal would chase and be chased, with a little bit of light wrestling. He is definitely an overexuberant puppy on first greeting, but responds well when the girls tell him that he is doing too much. He can rile up the group if left to run free, so we help him take breaks when needed.

Once he’s nice and tired, Walter enjoys taking naps on the couch or in the sunshine. Or settling in for a little massage while leaning on his people. He really enjoys getting full body pets, especially on his ribs.

Youth insight:

  • He’s so big I sometimes forget he is a puppy and is still learning.

  • Walter is my favorite because he is so happy to work with you

Will go home with a leash, harness, toys, a bed, two monthly doses of flea/tick/heartworm medication (value: $60), and a week’s worth of food
