KUMA #169008 neutered male 8 months 38 lbs (still growing)

Breed: Chow Chow

Here's what you need to know about me:

I can be nervous around new people. It just takes me a little while to get comfortable. But once I get to know you, I'm very loving.

It's recommended I meet any dogs or kids living in my new home before I'm adopted. I just want to make sure we all get along.

I'm not on the general adoption floor. You might not see me when you come to visit. So please speak to an adoption counselor if you'd like to meet me.

"FOREVER FOSTERS NEEDED!!!" "OLD DOG HAVEN" Rescue

 OLD DOG HAVEN  FB

about Old Dog Haven   Western Washington, Spokane and Portland, OR only

"Can you provide a home for a senior dog? Old Dog Haven places unadoptable dogs with families like yours across Western Washington state.
When you take a dog into your home we pay the medical costs-you provide the food and love.
We need Final Refuge Homes where the dog can stay for the rest of it's life, which can be weeks, months or years.
We always have a waiting list and for many dogs, Old Dog Haven is their only chance for a home or continued life.
It's a commitment but it's paid back in joy. Interested?" Contact us! https://olddoghaven.org/how-to-help/fostering/

Happy Final Refuge Friday!
Friends, WE NEED MORE FOREVER FOSTERS!!
This is going to be a long post but we sure hope you'll read it and share it
Final Refuge is another way of saying "forever foster" or permanent foster home.

Old Dog Haven's mission is to take senior dogs who have been deemed "unadoptable" and give them permanent homes. When we are asked for help we pull senior dogs from our local shelters. Shelter seniors are a priority for us, but we also take senior dogs directly from owners when we gather information that leads us to determine we cannot or should not courtesy post them for their owners. Most rescues are not able to provide permanent homes for the senior dogs they take in once they find that those dogs are not going to be adopted. When we are asked and can find a home for those dogs, we bring them into our care as well.
Some ask why they can't just adopt a dog we post as needing an Old Dog Haven home. If a shelter has determined it will not be making a dog available for adoption, that is their call to make and we respect that. The reasons these dogs are not made available for adoption can be advanced age, complicated medical issues, or they are an emotionally fragile old dog that should not be put through adoption (risking another rehoming).
Often we are asked why we cannot extend our reach beyond parts of W. Washington and Portland, OR. Friends, let us tell you that we would LOVE to extend our reach! However, that would not be responsible rescue. We hover at about 300 dogs in permanent care. To give those dogs the best we can, we know we can't send them to homes we have not carefully screened. We work with many vet clinics, specialists and specialty clinics. This doesn't mean we have "deals" with
these businesses. Yes, some may offer us a rescue discount that we greatly appreciate. However, the bottom line is we want to work with the veterinary clinics we know have the knowledge and equipment our seniors need. You see the dogs we take into our care- so many need a lot of care. Many of our dogs have emergencies when the vet they regularly see is closed or in the middle of the night. We need to be sure that wherever each dog lands, there is an E.R. hospital close by.
We match dogs we take into our care with fosters whose lifestyles match the dog's needs. Most seniors need more potty breaks, they don't manage long hours alone, they need to see a vet more often than younger dogs do. We understand that means there are those who won't be able to foster for us and we know sometimes it causes hard feelings. That is unfortunate but we hope that everyone can understand we do not want to "fail" these dogs. Please remember that most of the dogs we take into our care have already endured so much loss. We want to give every single one of these old dogs the very best homes we can offer them. We believe so many of you feel the same way-you love old dogs and you want to help them!
Today we are sharing Sancho again as he is still in need of your shares.
A shelter foster brought him home from the shelter but that is not a permanent placement. We would like to find a forever foster home for Sancho. He certainly received a lot of attention from his initial post but that didn't equate to finding him a home! We hope you'll join us again in sharing this unique little fellow.

An oldy but a goodie. Coco is an older gentleman who came in with another dog, Lunar.  (update LUNAR adopted 7/14/25) Coco is an easy going boy who would like to spend his golden years split between hanging out and going out on walks. Coco and Lunar do not get along with chickens and it is not recommended to bring them home with small animals. Dental hygiene is important, and a trip to the dentist would be recommended for this distinguished chap. All senior animals deserve to live out their golden years in a loving home that can provide them with peace, enrichment, and love. Could this home be yours? If so, consider adopting this sweet boy (or these sweet dogs?) today.

*In FOSTER*

Sandy is a young, active dog who thrives around people she knows (it does take her a couple of days to warm up to new people!) and adores staying close. She's especially dog-social and absolutely lives for playtime with her canine pals. Whether it's a game of chase or wrestling with a buddy, Sandy is all in (even if she sometimes forgets just how big she is). She's housebroken, well-behaved when left alone, and mostly sticks to her toys (especially squeaky ones, though they don't last long!). Though she will bark loudly at strangers who come to her yard or home, she hasn't shown aggression-- just a big voice. She's very good in a crate and her leash walking skills have greatly improved (a front-clip harness helps!). She is a great running/jogging partner. She would love a dog sibling or two but could be an only dog if she had opportunities to play with other dogs regularly. She would likely not do well in a home with small children, as it's one of the only things that seem to really distress her.

"JASPER" ** URGENT!! *scared in kennels* handsome, loving POINTER/hound mix * "MCAS"

"Jasper is such a sweet and smart dog! He walks well on a leash, and does pull at times but it’s completely manageable. He leans in for pets, loves treats (and takes them nicely). He plays well with other dogs although he can be rough at times (all in fun of course). He’d be a great hiking or running partner, as he definitely needs some exercise or a job, but he likes to cuddle too. Super nice and handsome boy!"  volunteer

"I'm a volunteer there and I love walking him. Really great dog. Come out and meet him." volunteer

Urgent – Shelter is Taking a Toll on Him! He needs out ASAP.

Jasper is a 6.5-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer mix who’s been stuck in the shelter since early July — and he’s deteriorating fast. This once happy, social dog is now spending most of his time outside his kennel, trembling, scared, and trying to escape the constant noise and barking. Because of this, visitors don’t even see him when they walk by.
Jasper is an active, adventurous dog who needs a family that can give him the exercise and stimulation he craves. He has a high prey drive, so no cats or small animals in the home, please. Sadly, he was adopted once by someone who didn’t understand this and was returned.
He’s social with other dogs in playgroups and could live with another active dog, but he needs slow introductions. In the kennel, Jasper is barrier reactive — barking and appearing aggressive simply because he’s stressed and trapped. But outside the kennel, he’s a totally different dog: playful, friendly, and full of love.
Jasper needs someone who understands his breed, is willing to be patient, and can help him decompress. With the right home, he’ll thrive, but time is running out.
Please help us get Jasper out of the shelter before his spirit breaks completely. Reach out to the MCAS County shelter directly if you can adopt, or even network him. Please Open your heart and home to Jasper.

Meet Jasper, a handsome, middle-aged Pointer/Hound mix with a heart full of adventure! This intelligent and spirited boy is looking for an active home where his strong instincts can be appreciated. Jasper absolutely loves to explore the world with his keen nose, but he's still learning the ropes of polite leash walking and can be quite a puller. He's a smart cookie who's eager to please, and with consistent training, he'll become a wonderful walking partner. It's important to note that Jasper has a strong prey drive and must go to a home without cats or other small animals. If you're an experienced dog owner ready to embrace a loyal companion with a zest for life, Jasper might just be your perfect match! 💕

"ZZ TOP" *URGENT!! *losing weight LOVING HOUND *easy to walk* *loves the water* "MCAS"

"Hounds bring a special joy to their homes. I hope this sweet boy is soon curled up on a soft bed with an adoring family."  MCAS FB comment

============ ZZ Top has an old man hound bay in the kennels but is quiet on a walk. He loves the water.  Really sweet dog.

ZZ wants you to know...I'VE  Been waiting too long, and it's not fair.  I was in an off-site program to help vet students, and was a good boy with everything they asked of me, but now I'm back at the shelter still looking for a good home. I had a brief stay in a foster home and they found me to be a really nice guy and rode well in the car, met men, women and a small dog. I love puzzles and running in a field. I'm an all around well-mannered guy/

I'm tired of living in kennels. I'm loosing weight, and am hoping to  find a nice soft spot to land- no apartments please - that elusive forever home. Can you help me find one?

ZZ Top, a distinguished older hound with a voice that carries, is looking for a loving retirement home. This seasoned gentleman arrived as a stray, but his charming personality quickly shone through. While ZZ Top enjoys expressing himself with robust vocalizations, he's also a sweet and gentle soul. He's seeking a patient owner who appreciates the unique character of a hound, including their distinctive baying, and can provide a comfortable, understanding environment. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a memorable soundtrack, ZZ Top might be the perfect addition to your life.
