About Baxter

Personality: Affectionate, Friendly, Curious, Funny, Loves, Playful

Baxter, our 15 pound 2 year old Pomeranian mix, came to us after his person went into hospital and couldn't care for him anymore. His person really didn't want to let him go, and it was evident that Baxter was very loved. We feel honored that we could take Baxter under our wing, get him out of the shelter, and make sure his next person loves him as much as his first one did.

Born with cataracts, Baxter has never been able to see well. He adjusts quickly, though, and once he maps out his environment, you'd never know he's got limitations. Even though his vision is low, Baxter loves walks and uses his other senses to explore. He really can do most everything other dogs can do.

Baxter is friendly but initially a little shy. He is potty trained, but when we took him in, he had yet to be neutered. This meant he had a tendency to mark. We suspect, now that he's neutered, this will improve. In the meantime, we recommend his adopter invest in some very fashionable belly bands. Baxter can be trusted to be left alone but he hates being in a crate. He has been friendly with dogs and has a pretty big puppy as his current best friend. Baxter is also being housed with a cat who he is learning to be respectful of. We suspect a dog savvy cat would be just fine.

Baxter is heartworm negative and is current on his flea and heartworm preventatives. When we neutered him, we also cleaned his teeth. Baxter will come with some vitamins and eye drops to support his eye health and we recommend these be continued long term. They are inexpensive.

We promised Baxter's first person that we would find him a great forever home. Is that you?
