Personality: Affectionate, Brave, Curious, Friendly, Loves

Sponge, our 10 year old 12 pound chihuahua mix, has approximately 90 pounds worth of confidence. We aren't sure how that happened; we're dog rescuers, not physicists. But this little guy struts around without a care in the world. Can we admit we're a bit jealous?

Sponge came to us as a stray from our local shelter. Needing a dental and several extractions, we were asked to help. Sponge charmed everyone right away. Despite his painful mouth, he was immediately friendly and funny. Now that he's all fixed up (had to lose a few teeth but is better for it), Sponge is even more of a character.

As good with dogs (all sizes) as he is with people, Sponge has been an ideal house guest. He's potty trained, not destructive, good in the crate but obviously much prefers the bed next to his person. Sponge loves walks and is not reactive on leash. We have not seen Sponge with cats, but could test him if needed. Like a lot of small dogs, Sponge has a loose kneecap. This isn't causing him any pain, but he occasionally skips on his walks.

Sponge sings the song of the Forlorn Chihuahua for a few minutes when his people leave, so a thin walled apartment is not likely a great fit. He also likes to be left unbothered when eating or if he has a nice chew, so little kids that don't understand dog boundaries are also not a great fit. Sponge also doesn't like foot rubs. We don't know who that would be a deal breaker for, but thought we'd mention it.

Sponge is heartworm negative and current on his flea and heartworm preventatives.

Need a little more swagger as you walk around town? Try being accompanied by a big dog in a tiny dog body!
