UPDATE NOV 16 2024  ADOPTED or on hold

" Looking for your new best friend and adventure buddy? Meet Coleman!  This compact, ball-loving, snuggle bug gets along amazingly with all the dog friends he meets.  He’s been overlooked time and time again, and it's breaking our hearts.
Coleman is a MUST meet if you’re looking for a loyal, dog-friendly companion. Don’t miss your chance to win the heart of this shelter favorite!   WCGHS FB  Nov 4, 2024

10/24/2024 COLEMAN is once again Available for adoption (he is now "no cats"_) He is in a foster with West Columbia Gorge Humane Society. He's the sweetest guy, active, cute as heck, overlooked and no one can figure out why!!

Cole was DNA tested: a Pug, Frenchie, Lab, Rottie, chow mix. So unique!

As one of Cole's previous foster homes, I really hope this sweetheart can finally land the best fit and committed home soon!  He's been shifted around for too long (shelters, fosters and 1 previous adopter) and must be so confused. When Coleman originally came in as a stray at MCAS in late June 2024- he had a dull coat with missing hair due to poor diet and care. He was not yet house-trained so was probably kept as an outside dog or living in a homeless camp.   but was terrified in the overly noisy MCAS kennels where he would tremble in the back of his kennel.

When the MCAS shelter kennels became full to capacity, an urgent email was sent to Mcas foster volunteers to foster a dog and empty up a kennel for another dog. I was still a volunteer at MCAS at that  time. As a devoted Mcas volunteer and foster of 19 years, I knew I wanted to help. On my regular dog walking shift that day, I looked in the kennels for a dog who I thought would be good with my 2 home dogs.  I  was drawn to the very scared but gentle Coleman and brought him home to foster.

Coleman was with me as a foster for 7 weeks.  He recovered from kennel cough, was neutered, became housetrained, and cratetrained. His sparse fur grew in thick and soft, and he gained needed weight. Coleman discovered toys, learned to play with other dogs, and opened up as he felt loved and became more secure. After 7 weeks, Cole was accepted to be transferred to WCGHS, where he went to stay with a new foster for 3 weeks...(I was advised that I wouldn't be able to continue as his foster for them)

Cole was then adopted (  to someone with a cat)...After one month, Cole was returned to that shelter (with a no cats clause in a new foster home)  What a journey for this guy. Cole must be so confused.  At least he is one of the lucky homeless dogs whose best interests are still being looked after by a good shelter/rescue!  I love him and makes me sad to see him still without his own home. I hope he finds a great one soon!

Cole has the best temperament, is very smart, funny and sensitive and has soft loose fur on his scruff and a squishy face.  He is also a busy boy at home- more than average- and engages with his toys and the other home dogs much of the day when not napping or snuggling,so he needs someone who will give him lots of attention! In the car he rides quietly, and at night will sleep peacefully in a large wire, covered crate (or on your bed if desired) He is a fascinating mix of breeds.(see below) Miss you buddy!

Cole is a love! so affectionate, funny and full of a zest for life.  He will test your patience, fulfill your yen for training; will entertain you with his antics, and delight you with his affection. Everyone who meets Coleman, likes him!

Cole is not a dog for someone who wants a dog who just lays in the corner and is satisfied with a walk and a few good meals a day. He's looking for a buddy who is home more than not, someone who enjoys funny dogs and their personalities, and can give training /guidance -  but not take away Cole's silliness and love for life. He deserves a good home that is able to continue to provide him with good care

When he feels secure with the routine, Cole can also be a mellow and chill guy.  He has a great temperament!

Cole is not a dog for very young children or sedentary older folks.  Nor is he a good match with a really rowdy assertive dog  as he can get overwhelmed is he is pushed too hard- at least until he gets to know the other dog well.  He's not a dog for someone who lacks patience and expects strict obedience (what fun is that?) But he IS a dog for those who have alot of love for dogs with lots of personality and charm.

notes: He usually takes treats very gently, HOWEVER - he once or twice grabbed for a treat or hand held toy very hard and with young children that would be a problem.  Cole also is very physical(can be pushy)and wants to roll around or play - and can get mouthy -when you are on the floor at his level - and this could be a problem with little kids)

Cats - he hasn't met any actual cats in foster, (and any history with them is unknown) but he showed a distinct fear towards a stuffed cat "decoy" when he was brought into the same room with one. If someone were savvy and proceeded patiently, slowly and gently introducing him to a cat (taking more than one session to do this)  it is possible he could become comfortable and live with a savvy cat and not be afraid of it-  if people expected immediate results, and pushed too hard, he could go in the other direction

Cole is an adorable, energetic pup who is around 1 year old. With his squishy face, floppy ears, dark brindle coat, and a charming blue tongue, he's sure to steal your heart! Cole was once a stray who had a rough start, but thanks to love and care, he's now a healthy, happy boy. He forms strong bonds and is super affectionate-massages are his favorite! While he can be a bit "pushy" for attention, a simple "sit" can help him settle down. Plus, he's a fetch enthusiast and loves playing with his toys. Though house-training took some time, Cole is now reliable with regular potty breaks, and with a regular schedule he will do great! He thrives in a home with another dog to keep him company. Cole enjoys walks and has gained confidence on a leash, especially with a buddy. He can be vocal at times, particularly during meals or when crated, but settles down quickly. This playful pup is curious and loves to explore, so it's best to keep belongings out of reach. He can be rambunctious in the evenings, making walks a great way to burn off some energy. With a mix of breeds-think Lab, Pug, and Chow-Cole is one-of-a-kind! He's looking for a patient, loving home that can give him the attention he craves. If you're ready for endless love and companionship, consider adopting Cole today! 🐾❤️ In a fun twist, his foster mom even did a DNA test-prepare to be surprised by the results! If you're ready to welcome a playful, loving, and sometimes silly friend into your home, this good boy is waiting for you!
